Features

The Champ de Cour parcel is located in the southernmost part of the area associated with the very best Moulin Vents. The vines are planted in one of the deepest soils in the region.

Vinification

Picked and sorted by hand, then de-stemmed, the grapes macerate slowly over the course of three or four weeks. Indigenous yeasts are used throughout the fermentation period, and extraction by means of both plunging and pumping over takes place on a regular basis.

Maturing and bottling

The wines are aged in our historic cellar for 10 months, a period spent in oak barrels, 100% of which are new. The oak used to make the barrels comes from the forests of Alliers, the Limousin and the Nivernais.

Tasting / Wine and food pairing

'Champ de Cour' is a powerful, broad wine with supple tannins that help it to stand up to strongly flavoured dishes.

Conservation

The wine needs two to three years reach its peak, and can then age comfortably for several decades.

The Vintage

After a mild January 2012 a cold snap arrived dominating the first two weeks of February. The first sign to indicate that the future crop this year would be small. March was somewhat warmer favouring an early bud burst of the vines. Then again April, rather cool and humid with hardly no sun, calmed down the general growth of the vine and confirmed the path of a hectic and unpredictable year in terms of climatic conditions. Some rain followed, including hail in particular spots. Overall temperatures were lower than average compared to previous years and this continued into the summer . Fortunately with the arrival of August and the first two weeks of September the weather warmed up with almost no rain. This encouraged a slow maturation of the grapes and a very healthy situation. Harvest started on September 17. In a nutshell, 2012 is somewhat a "late" vintage and much smaller than usual. Grapes were nicely ripe and the juice wellbalanced despite hectic weather conditions: a very demanding vintage for the growers.
