Features

The Clos de Loyse creates a very individual style of Chardonnay derived from its granite soils, which lie to the south of Burgundy.

Vinification

The 'Clos de Loyse' Burgundy is vinified in oak barrels, just like its northern cousins. The grapes are placed in the barrels straight after clarification, and there it undergoes both its alcoholic fermentation and its malolactic fermentation (either partial or full).

Maturing and bottling

The wine is matured on its lies, and undergoes regular batonnage. Of the Allier oak barrels used for this wine, 50% are new.

Tasting / Wine and food pairing

The Ch‚teau des Jacques Clos de Loyse white Burgundy is a fruity wine with vanilla-tinged aromas. It is quite structured and tends to show good balance. It's the perfect match for poultry, fish, shellfish and goat's cheeses.

Conservation

Although very approachable when young, you can easily cellar this wine for five to eight years.

The Vintage

Early budbreak and vigorous vegetative growth brought on by warm, sunny weather. A rainy, cold July slowed growth and replenished reserves of water. A few rain showers around the 20th of August were followed by a September marked by sunny days and cool nights, which created the ideal conditions for the bunches to ripen fully, concentrating both acidity and flavours. Picking began on the 27th of August with the earliest-ripening parcels, and the grapes were both balanced and high in anthocyanins. The subsequent har vest took place under sunny skies and at moderate temperatures. The bunches were extremely healthy, and vinification progressed smoothly. The wines are rich and generous, without any harsh angles, and already show great depth. Rich fr uit is balanced by silky, fine-gained tannins and fresh acidity, resulting in a vibrant, dynamic wine. 2011 is a vintage that will age beautifully, although its generosity and charm will permit these wines to be enjoyed in their youth.
